CHOLESTEROL is a derivative of cyclopentenoperhydrophenanthrene classified as a representative of lipids. Its chemical structure identifies it as a lipid with a steroid structure. Produced by the body and supplied as part of the daily diet from animal sources. Yolk, offal, animal fats, cold cuts, meat are the sources with the highest concentration of cholesterol vitamin. Cholesterol is a component of cell membranes in addition to being used by the body in the production of many different biologically active compounds. Some examples of these compounds include steroid hormones, cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), and bile acids. It is necessary to maintain the proper functioning of many organs, including the optimal work of the endocrine system.
