ALPHA-KETOGLUTARATE ORNITHINE

ORNITHINE ALPHA-KETOGLUTARATE is a salt formed from glutaric acid and the amino acid ornithine, which is not found naturally in proteins. When the above-mentioned substances are combined into one molecule, the phenomenon of synergy can be used. This means that the resulting compound may have stronger properties than ornithine in free form. Ornithine is an amino acid that the body produces itself. It does not build muscle protein, but it is very important for the urea cycle (next to citrulline and arginine). The liver begins the process of breaking down amino acids by getting rid of nitrogen. Since ammonia is very dangerous, it must be neutralized.

Arginine, in turn, forms urea and ornithine. Urea and ornithine “return” to the mitochondria and the cycle can start again. For the urea cycle to work, there must be enough ornithine in the body. When all reactions proceed correctly, the waste product of amino acid metabolism can be eliminated, which is even more important with high-protein diets. Ornithine is also needed to make polyamines, which are good for the liver because they help heal it. Ornithine alpha-ketoglutarate is added to pre-workout supplements called “no-boosters.”
